Wood mask, 'Primitive'
Inspired by Indonesia's rich culture, Wayan Arsana designs a mask that bears the unique artistry of the Dayak people. The mask features a long nose and ample ears, pierced on top, resembling the earliest forms of Dayak art. Arsana carves the mask by hand of select albesia wood, ensuring the Dayak stylizations that enliven this original piece. One of the oldest tribes in Indonesia, the Dayak live in the most inaccessible areas of the Kalimantan jungles, though a recent airfield has been built in the vicinity. They preserve many of their ancient customs and survive from hunting monkeys and birds with handmade blowpipes.
